‘Tiger Slam’ irons go up for auction…and the bidding war is escalating quickly

Published

on

For the first time since 2010, the clubs used for arguably the best stretch of golf ever played in the history of the game are up for auction.

The Titleist 681-T irons and Vokey wedges that Woods used throughout 2000 and into 2001 have been made available. Woods used these clubs to win four consecutive major championships to complete the “Tiger Slam”.

The set includes 2-iron through pitching wedge, a 60-degree wedge and a 58-degree wedge bent toward 56. The wedges are stamped with “TIGER”.

Golden Age Auctions will handle the listing for the clubs. The company recently sold the highest priced collectibles ticket ever: a 1934 Masters ticket that went for 600,000.

The opening bid price on the clubs was $25,000, but currently sits at $297,955 You can bid here.

The bidding will conclude on April 9, which is Masters Saturday.

Why does Tiger not still have these? I know he’s accomplished a lot and memorabilia is probably not much of a thing for him, but the set of irons that won four majors in a row?!

Wear mark too good to be true. Also seems a bit low on the face??

It’s perfect. That’s what happens when you hit the ball before the turf and take a proper divot.

Only here could someone who probably can’t break 90 doubt the strike pattern. Golfers are a special breed.

So the pattern is real and no it’s exactly where it’s supposed to be on the club face.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
