Stealth vs Stealth Plus – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing TaylorMade’s latest drivers. WRXer ‘Long Shot’ has put the two Stealth drivers up against each other and our members have been comparing and contrasting them in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- BallerNate: “I owned both and tested each one 5+ times at my indoor range locally. I don’t have a Trackman and wish I could’ve tested them both outdoors, but still Winter here in snowy Canada. What I found is that the Stealth Plus was very comparable to the OG SIM for me in terms of being low spinning and low launching, but definitely more forgiving and playable than the SIM. The STD Stealth was more comparable to the SIM2 Max in terms of forgiveness, launch, and spin and was the better fit for me overall.”
- 2down: “I was hitting into nets, have had the stealth for a few weeks now and am pleased with my choice.”
- SollyInGA: “I hit both over a long two day fitting. I was sure I would end up with the STD, but my numbers were better with the Plus. The STD was more forgiving, but not by much. My normal high-end distance is in the 280s. I was in that vicinity much more often with the PLUS. I’m a high ball hitter anyway, but the extra spin that I was getting with the STD was killing my distance. The fitter tried a variety of different shafts and flexes to try to tame the spin numbers with the STD, but once I started hitting the Plus it gave me the extra control that I needed to hit fairway finders and going for it a little more. I had trouble controlling the STD with those kinds of shots. I’m just a mid capper, but the choice was fairly easy for me. No regrets with the Plus for about a month now.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
