How good do you need to be to play T100S irons? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing Titleist’s T100S irons. WRXer ‘Vater’ is considering purchasing the clubs but is concerned that he may not be at the right level to play them, saying:
“I’m thinking of getting T100S short irons. I hit them well in the bay and got consistent numbers for my short irons. I love the buttery feel and control that I’m looking for more of in my short irons.
But how good do you need to be to play them over time, not just at the shop? Do you need to be a blade player, a solid low handicapper, a super ball striker? Anyone playing them who’s more of just an average golfer?”

- LeftyMatt24: “Depends on your strengths. Also which irons you’re going to get the t100s in, I think contributes to if you can play them. I’d say if you’re a good ball striker, you should have no issues with 7 iron down.”
- third-times-a-charm: “You can play whatever you want. There are 25hc players who play blades because it makes them feel good. I would say at least a 10hc at the most to properly make use of them and get the ball speed and striking you need. I’m sure there will be differing opinions.”
- R5Two: “No. You can hit them. Practice. If you hit them well in the bay, just give yourself some time on the course, and you’ll get used to them.”
- CUBuffaloes: “Don’t let someone tell you that your handicap has to be at least a certain number to play them. If you like them, play them. I’m a crappy bogey golfer, but I’d happily play a set of T100s. I can’t stand wide soles and huge offset commonly found in GI irons. I’ve tried GI irons and shoot worse than I do with a more players type club. Find the right shaft and play what you want.”

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

I’m so sick of this topic. The type of irons you play have almost zero outcome on your score. Keep the driver in play, don’t screw up your chips, and make a few puts and you will score wellish. If your swing sucks with a blade it’s still going to suck with a shovel. No club is going to help when you hit 3 inches behind the ball.
