Best 3-wood for $100 or less? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing the best budget 3-woods. WRXer ‘BryanwMilburn’ kicks off the thread, saying

“I just threw a couple of Adams Idea Pro A12 hybrids back in the bag that I got for $50/piece (for the fun of it), and man, they’re still SO good and as good as anything I’ve tried in the last 8-10 years! Trying to see if there’s something out there for cheap I can throw in the bag for the 3-wood too. Thanks!”

And our members have been sharing their picks that can be picked up for less than $100.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • puttingmatt: “Tour Edge pre-owned, or Callaway pre-owned, best values in golf.”
  • Mitchell: “Titleist 917f2, so good that still played by a few players on various tours (Keith Mitchell, Scott Stallings, Jonas Blixt, Paul Waring, etc.).”
  • lefthack: “I have not paid $100 or more for a 3-wood yet. My Honma XP-1 is amazing. I tried to talk myself out of it, but it just delivers.”
  • drumdude96: “Do yourself a favor and get an Adams Super LS. They are titanium (I’m pretty sure), are easy to hit both from the tee and the deck, and the ball goes a mile with them. Easily one of the best 3-woods I’ve ever had.”
  • CUBuffaloes: “Cobra F7. I have one, and it makes it back into the bag every now and then if my current gamer isn’t behaving. I don’t plan on ever selling it.”

I scored a brand new Tour Edge Exotics Cbx on eBay for 60 bucks about a year and a half ago. In theory the shaft is about 20 grams too light for me, but I hit it great and I couldn’t pass that deal up.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
