GolfWRX Spotted: TaylorMade Stealth, Stealth Plus drivers on USGA and R&A conforming list

Published

on

On Monday, TaylorMade’s Stealth and Stealth Plus drivers hit the USGA and R&A’s conforming list.

Accordingly, the drivers are now eligible to be played at events on Tour.

Both feature the word “Carbonwood” on the sole of the club — a compound word we don’t know the meaning of, but plenty will be endeavoring to figure out.

And while we don’t know the story of the materials, at a glance, it’s apparent the Stealth Plus sees the return of a sliding weight track and both clubs feature rear weights similar to the SIM2 and SIM2 Max. Based on the black-and-white photos, the soles of the clubs don’t appear as carbon fiber intensive as the SIM2, but it’s impossible to be sure.

Per the USGA’s description of the clubs, “60X Carbon Twist Face” is featured on the face of the clubs, while both contain an adjustable hosel mechanism and Speed Pocket slot, which is positioned behind the leading edge.

As mentioned, the Stealth Plus driver features an adjustable, 10-gram weight—placed near the face, right behind the Speed Pocket.

According to the conforming list, for right-handers, the Stealth is approved in 8, 9, 10.5, and 12-degrees, while the Stealth Plus is in 8, 9, and 10.5-degree options. The Stealth and Stealth Plus are available in 9 and 10.5 degrees for left-handers.

See what our members are saying about TaylorMade’s Stealth and Stealth Plus drivers in our forums here.

  • Radiman said: “Could be the angle, but the Plus definitely looks longer front to back. The regular stealth seems to resemble the OG SIM more.”

I saw this driver/fairway woods the other day and they look really good. My source also says the testing has shown considerable ball speed increases compared to the SIM 2.

Good friend of mine who plays on tour was in Cali last month at TM Headquarters. He also said the same thing about ball speed with the Stealth.. A good 3-4mph jump and it’s been in the works for the last 5 years.

The tailor-made rep showed us the whole line of stealth clubs about three weeks ago. I got a chance to hit it and the boasts about the speed are completely true. He also said the concept was originally from 20 years ago but manufacturing and materials development Didn’t make it possible until recently

Doubt it, that doesn’t make any sense to have a concept 20 years ago that’s being utilized now.

Oh good! 12 more yards deeper into the woods for you then! lol

Interesting, but if you have bought a new driver in the last 3 years, don’t waste your money. With trade/reseller values low, paying an additional $200-$300 for a new driver that I’ll bet will only give you 3-5 yards, if that, is a waste. The PXG 0211 or 0811 under $300 makes more sense…for $229 or $299 you have a new state-of-the-art driver and still have your original one! Now that makes sense.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
