Ping iBlade: Most forgiving blade? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing Ping’s iBlade. WRXer ‘m_w’ recently tested out the iron from Ping and was blown away from his experience, saying:

“I went to hit the i59s today – lovely looking iron, great spin. Very comparable to the Callaway Apex Pro 21, in my opinion.

Before I left I went to hit the iBlade, which I had never hit before. Great feeling iron. I absolutely smoked it. How can an iron this small be so forgiving? Is it just the honeymoon period where you think you found the holy grail, or can others confirm that the iBlade is extremely forgiving? Honestly felt as if not more forgiving as a Mizuno JPX Forged or Callaway Apex. Am I crazy?”

And our members have been sharing their thoughts on the blade, with many holding the same opinion.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • BostonWRX: “One of the best irons made IMO. Insanely forgiving for the size and look awesome in the bag.”
  • Longballjock: “I love my I Blades; got the i200 in 4&5 irons but could have easily played the iBlade in those clubs tho. I have typically played smaller irons.Titleist 670 MB, Nike VR TW, AP2, Taylormade MB, Nike Vapor Pro. Out of everything these irons defo perform the best when my swing is not firing on all cylinders. I will go test the new i59 but reckon these will be in the bag for 2022.”
  • sbolitho: “The iBlade is still the best iron Ping has ever made (would have loved a set of s-55’s though, missed out there). I have a set and they are as good as anything in the players cb/mb category.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
