Cleveland introduces new Launcher XL drivers

Published

on

Cleveland Golf has unveiled its new Launcher XL family of drivers: the Launcher XL driver, Launcher XL Lite driver, and Launcher XL Lite Draw driver, which will all hit retail on August 20.

The Launcher XL driver features a 6.7 percent longer front-to-back profile with an 11 percent increase in MOI compared to the previous generation.

The added MOI (most ever in a Cleveland driver) is designed to deliver more forgiveness with a higher launch and, per the company, provides a 27% tighter dispersion area when compared against the previous generation.

The Launcher XL driver contains Rebound Frame, which aims to provide alternating zones of flexibility and rigidity that directs more energy into the golf ball on every drive helping golfers achieve greater speeds.

An adjustable hosel allows golfers to optimize their launch angle, distance and shot shape with up to 12 different potential loft positions.

Finally, the Launcher XL comes standard with Action Mass CB: an 8g weight that is placed inside the end of the grip in design to help square up the ball more consistently for better accuracy and control.

Alongside the Launcher XL driver, Cleveland Golf has developed the new Launcher XL Lite model, which is aimed at players who prefer a lightweight option in order to add speed to their swing.

The Launcher XL Lite features the same XL Head Design and Rebound Frame structure and combines it with the brand’s new Lite-Weight Design. This driver is designed to help moderate swing speed players dial up their speed for more distance by saving 12g of weight compared to the standard Launcher XL Driver.

In addition, Cleveland has designed the Launcher XL Lite Draw, which helps take the right side out of play for players who struggle with a slice off the tee.

I like the fact that Cleveland mentions the increased size of the face (you know, the part where you actually hit the ball!) as well as the amount of measurable MOI. I’ve been waiting for OEMs to do this for years. Will be interested to try this when it’s released.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
