TaylorMade launches all-new 300 Mini Driver

Published

on

One month after landing on the USGA’s conforming list, TaylorMade Golf has launched the all-new 300 Mini Driver, which will hit retail on July 16th 2021.

The new 300 Mini Driver features a 307cc head designed to deliver a blend of distance, forgiveness and control, while the multi-material construction aims to provide the optimal combination of low-CG performance and high MOI forgiveness.

Speaking on the new addition, Tomo Bystedt, Product Creation, Metalwoods & Irons at TaylorMade, said

“It’s been 20 years since we last made a metalwood this size. It was only natural to call it the 300 Mini Driver to acknowledge what the 300 Series meant to our brand and the game. We blended the throwback look with modern carbon, titanium and steel construction to produce a club the speaks to TaylorMade loyalists while delivering distance from the tee and the fairway.”

The low CG and mass in the face are distributed across the sole from front to back in design to provide high launch with low spin characteristics. At the same time, the combination of a high-strength titanium face and Thru-Slot Speed Pocket seeks to deliver maximum ball speed.

The Twist Face technology in the Mini Driver aims to add another level of playability, while a reinvented V-Steel soleplate seeks to add to the low CG properties, promoting improved turf interaction and versatility when played off the deck.

A prototype model of the 300 Mini Driver was played last month during the U.S. Open by Phil Mickelson, and per the company, other Team TaylorMade athletes, including Dustin Johnson, are currently testing the design for potential play at next week’s Open Championship.

I bought an Original One a few years ago. I don’t think you’ll see any pros playing these. I bought it as a toy to goof around with. I actually performs well but I don’t see how it would fit into a 14-club bag.

Do you remember when the original one came out? I reminder loving it when testing, but it went off the marked quite quickly. For some reason that is NOT the story TaylorMade wants to tell us. Callaway made a similar mini driver at the same time, and it vanished as well….

When you can’t go any bigger, go smaller. Then, go bigger again. If it’s such a good idea, why aren’t they making the staff pros use them.

Shouldn’t be more than $249-$299 to compete with the 3 wood market. And agree, for what it is even that’s too high, and that goes for all fairway metals.

Considering there is about $14 of material in it………..

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
