GolfWRX Spotted: TaylorMade 300 Mini Driver on conforming list

Published

on

TaylorMade’s “300 Mini Driver” has landed on the USGA’s conforming list as the rise in mini driver popularity continues.

TaylorMade 300 Mini Driver

Like all recent TM drivers, the new addition from TaylorMade includes Twist Face technology and a Speed Pocket that bids to aid lower face strikes. An adjustable hosel will allow players to adjust the head by two degrees up and down (from the standard 11.5 degrees), allowing for a driver head to range from 9.5 up to 13.5 degrees. A 13.5-degree model will be available as well, per the conforming list.

In addition, the mini driver contains a multi-material which appears to include a carbon crown, titanium body, and heavy steel sole plate. A T logo alignment mark features on the crown of the club, and per the conforming list details, a left-handed version will arrive in 11.5 degrees.

What our members are saying:

  • chrism: “I didn’t dislike the looks of the previous mini drivers, but I love this look. At 300cc, I am VERY interested to try it out. Will it be a versatile half-set driver/fw, or will it be a 2 wood type club in the main bag!? Can’t wait to hit both lofts and see!”
  • Breezy-3-: “I dig the return to the 300 series look. I played a 360Ti in high school, loved that club. A buddy of mine broke it attempting an ill-fated Happy Gilmore swing at the range the night before the high school state tournament. That was the origins of my golf club hoing.”
  • ASN21: “I am a little curious to try a 13.5 head.”

either there’s information missing here, or there’s an error

the pictures show an 11.5* loft head. if that’s adjustable +/- 2*, that would mean 9.5* to 13.5* range. the article states it can be weakened up to 15.5*

is there also a 13.5* head coming out? or is there a typo above?

Why not just buy a driver from 20 years ago off of ebay?

The shaft. Hopefully Taylor will offer a bunch of shaft choices. I think shafts are more improved than heads. I would put a new shaft on a 10 or 20 yr old head, but not vice versa.

I have a ProForce V2 in a M2 head that is my backup driver. Still a beast.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
