‘Did one length irons ruin my game?’ – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been reacting to a post from WRXer ‘Alj92’, who is wondering whether switching to one length irons has ruined his game. Alj92 says:
“I played one length irons (King F9) all last season – about 80 rounds. In 20 years of golf I’ve never hit it better, even when I played well as a kid.
Because I could not find left handed wedges (anything above 48*) or a 4/5i (anything less than 23*), I sold them at the end of last season.
This year I switched to ping g425’s. Complete confidence, consistency and launch over the 6-7-8. Smash them. But I am struggling immensely with the 4/5 and 9-LW. Long irons thin weak slices, short irons strong pulls. Nowhere close with alignment.
Did I kill my swing with the one length irons last season? Is that…possible, or does it make sense? Or is this just an expensive validation that I am a prime candidate for one length?”

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

No. If you knew how to read he said when playing the one length in his 20 years of golf he has never hit the ball better. He changed Bc he wanted new clubs and instead of sticking to one length and getting fit by cobra, edel, wishon etc he bought variable length clubs that probably cost the same as he could have been fitted into 1 length for. And snake oil? Even ping and Taylormade have done research into the one length concept and found around 30 percent of golfers would benefit from a 1 length setup. The issue is those companies wouldn’t sell enough of those clubs to justify the rnd, materials, and space for molds when idiots like you keep buying new variable length thinking that new set is the ticket. I play variable Bc I always have and when I tried one length for a month on vacation I actually saw why a lot of golfers could should try them. I just love my miuras to much. If miura made a 1 length set I’d switch.
