PXG 0211 ST irons: Pure performance at a great price

Published

on

It was only a few weeks ago that PXG launched the full line of 0211 clubs tailored to golfers of all skill levels looking for top-end performance at a great price.

Now on the heels of the “clubs for everyone” PXG is releasing the 0211 ST, a triple forged tour-level blade designed for skilled golfers looking for maximum workability.

“We couldn’t help it. We had to see if we could develop a pure tour blade that packs a punch at a killer price tag. Good enough for the tour, but designed for the average Joe, 0211 ST Irons feel as good as they look.”

-PXG founder and CEO Bob Parsons.

PXG 0211 ST details

The new 0211 ST irons from PXG are triple forged from 8620 soft carbon steel—the same carbon steel used to cast Vokey wedges by Titleist and forge Ping Blueprint irons. This steel offers improved durability compared to some other grades and also helps create a softer feel (although the feel is mostly impacted by club geometry and not material, we don’t need to start that debate here, it’s a proven fact).

Now, speaking of geometry, the 0211 ST irons are a blade in the purest sense of the word, but thanks to some clever shaping they are able to offer some nice stability and extra MOI (a measurement of forgiveness) thanks to mass concentrated lower on the back flange and towards the toe. This helps keep ball speeds more consistent across the face, but just keep in mind when thinking about forgiveness, it’s still a blade.

The other key design element for the 0211 ST blade is the MOI around the shaft axis. To simplify what that means, it’s the distance from the center of the shaft to the center of gravity on the clubhead. The smaller/shorter that distance, the easier it is for the golfer to control face angle. This value is what makes larger clubs more consistent for less consistent golfers and also allows smaller clubs to be workable for those seeking greater control.

“I love PXG 0211 STs. They have a minimal profile that looks amazing over the ball. And the softness of the face gives me more control and consistency with my distances,”

-LPGA Tour player and PXG staffer Austin Ernst.

Price and availability

The all-new PXG 0211 ST irons are available starting today and are priced at $149 per club in stock configuration. You can visit PXG.com or call 844.PLAY.PXG to learn more or schedule a fitting.

A great looking, forged players blade at $149/club. Speechless!
Previous PXG offerings were $650/club and very over rated.
    Explain that to me.

I can’t agree with your “worst customer service” statement. On the contrary, I’ve found them to be very responsive and willing to go to great lengths to be helpful.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
