Wilson releasing Tour Grind wedges inspired by professional staff
When you need feedback on performance, you go to the top. For Wilson and its new Tour Grind wedges, they worked alongside PGA Tour staff to develop new additions to the Staff wedge line to offer greater versatility.

“The new Staff Model Tour Grind Wedges offer consumers the chance to play a wedge inspired by the custom grinds made uniquely for Tour players such as Gary Woodland and Padraig Harrington on Tour,” – Jon Pergande, Global Manager of Innovation.
At the core of this extension are sole grinds intended to help golfers who prefer to play shots around the green with an open face or play in firmer conditions.
They also feature the same technology as the existing Staff Model forged wedges, which will remain in the line
- CNC machined face and grooves to maximize volume for pushing moisture and debris away from the strike point and to increase surface roughness.
- Soft feel, thanks to a forged 8620 carbon steel construction, along with a Wilson staple: a Fluid Feel insert at the base of the head.

As for the rest of the design, just like the other Wilson Staff Forged wedges, the Tour Grinds have a weight muscle positioned high in the toe to move the center of gravity higher to take advantage of gear effect and increase spin on both full and partial shots.
“With a clean design and precision milled club faces, these Tour Grind wedges will provide all golfers with more control of their shot-making capabilities and are a perfect complement to our existing Staff Model line of wedges.” – Jon Pergande
Price and availability
The all-new Wilson Staff Tour Grind wedges are available today, February 9, at retailers as well as online from Wilson.com.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
