What GolfWRXers are saying about playing both hybrids and driving irons
In our forums, our members have been discussing playing with both hybrids and driving irons. WRXer ‘achappy’ kicks off the thread and is interested in the prospect of playing both, and has reached out to fellow members for their thoughts behind the strategy.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Pepperturbo: “A few years back I tested hybrids, but never put one in the bag, never like the look. I have carried only Driver & 3/4 wd, and either a 1 or 2 iron since taking up the game and currently enjoy 718 T-MB 17′ 2 iron. It could be called a driving iron, but it’s just a 2 iron to me as it’s part of a set; U500 is a driving iron. My buddy, however, has 2 hybrids, 5wd and 3wd and most of the time hits them decently. He does not get along with long irons or a driving iron.”
- LUXOR54: “I have a P790UDI and then go to a 21° hybrid. Like you said, driving iron is great for off the tee or low punch runners out of the crap. Hybrid is good for getting it up in the air and landing soft. For me, hybrids always go sky high, at least for me a driving iron is more versatile off the tee. High? Low? Stinger? You got it.”
- MPAndreassi: “This is a great topic and something I talked myself into doing this evening. I’m going to be playing an HMB 3 (19*) and a CLK 4 (22*). The HMB I use for a ton of tee shots, punch outs, etc. and the CLK will replace my 4 iron. Into par 5s, from the rough.”
- JackpotJohnny: “This is super interesting. I do it a little different I guess. I have an 18deg hybrid I will use occasionally off the tee and 2nd shots into par 5s. Then I have a graphite shafted 21deg DI that I primarily use as a rescue if I need to get out of trouble on par 5s where I know I can’t get there. And also sometimes off the tee.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Hi there,
Sorry to bother you, but I wanted to ask a quick question. Is there room for improvement when it comes to your site?
Most sites need edits, tweaks, content, logos, SEO, marketing, branding, etc. and that’s why I am reaching out to you.
My name is James and I go around the internet and test services and marketplaces to see if they’re legitimate. I then let everyone know about the winners I’ve decided to stick with for my own sites so you don’t have to do the vetting yourself.
You can see my 2 big winners here: https://webvetted.com
Go through the sites, find some packages you like, reach out to a few people if you want to buy something, and push your website to be better 🙂
Thanks,
James
