Callaway signs Ryo Ishikawa to multi-year deal
Callaway has signed 10-time Japanese Tour winner Ryo Ishikawa to a multi-year deal that includes equipment, apparel, hats, gloves and footwear.
Ishikawa, 21, was previously signed to Yonex. The Saitama, Japan native is one of golf’s most promising young talents, becoming the youngest golfer to win a men’s tournament on the Japan Golf Tour at the age of 15. Ishikawa turned professional in 2008, and in 2009 became the youngest golfer ever to be ranked in the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings (he is currently ranked No. 75 in the world).
“I am very happy to join the Callaway team,” Ishikawa said. “I believe the wonderful innovation and support Callaway gives to its many great staff players with help me grow as I compete on the PGA Tour this year.”
Ishikawa will likely play Callaway’s Razr Fit Xtreme driver, X Hot Pro 15-degree 3 wood, 18-degree X Utility Prototype, 2013 X Forged irons, X Forged wedges and HEX Black golf ball, as well as an Odyssey putter that he has used throughout his career. More information will be added about Ishikawa’s equipment as it becomes available.
Ishikawa officially became a member of the PGA Tour in March 2012, and played 18 events on the PGA Tour last year. He make the cut in 10 tournaments, earning $727,051. His best finishes came at the Farmers Insurance Open, the Puerto Rico Open, and Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament, where he finished T13, 2nd and T9, respectively. His best finish in a major came at the 2011 Masters, where he finished T20.
Ishikawa announced in March 2011 that he would donate his entire 2011 tour earnings, plus an additional 100,000 yen for every birdie he made, to Japanese earthquake relief efforts.
“Ryo is an exciting, young international talent who has proven he can compete and win at the highest level,” said Chip Brewer, president and CEO of Callaway Golf. “And not only is he an accomplished golfer, Ryo is an extraordinary and generous young man. We are proud that he has chosen our products for their exceptional performance, and we are excited to welcome Ryo to Team Callaway.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

It’s a good arrangement up for Callaway to the raise the profile of the brand.
Ryo is huge in Japan and the country love their golf. His profile alone will give Callaway plenty of exposure and hopefully get more people playing golf.
