What GolfWRXers are saying about the driver they recorded their highest ball speed with

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing the drivers they hit their highest ball speed with. WRXer, ‘jaron6’, began the thread to find out “if certain heads helped everyone or if they are all user specific” and our members have been sharing their experiences.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • QuigleyDU: “Mine was an Adams 9015d 9.5 with a graphite design YS 7x tipped an inch. I touched 187 ball speed with that driver when I was a bit younger. Currently, the SIM has been the winner. With a KBS TD shaft I have gotten to 182, but typically hover around 177-180.”
  • BraxtonFullerton: “The new Cobra Speedzone has my fastest ball-speed (178) but strangely not my furthest carry distance. That went to the SIM.”
  • The Mad Bomber: “The Epic Flash SZ, the ball speeds were consistently better than anything else before. Mavrik is close. I just don’t care for Cally drivers at all.”
  • rainkingjr: “Cobra F7+.”
  • Justsomeguy: “Original Epic and my current F9.”
  • KevCannon: “Rogue sub-zero w/AD TP for me, hit between 163-164 ball speed a few times, for whatever reason the Epic flash sz didn’t work as well with the TP. Flash sz with Ventus Blue and Aldila synergy green prototype both got to 162 ball speed, but admittedly I have lost a bit of muscle since last year. Have not hit any of the new driver heads.”

Entire Thread: “Which driver have you recorded your highest ball speed with?”

No clue what the ball speed was because I was playing golf on a course, but the longest drive I ever hit was about 370 with some wind help using a Cobra BioCell+. I was furious from a 3 putt the hole before and just went after the driver with every ounce of strength I had, and for once in my life I found the center of the face with an angry swing.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
