What GolfWRXers are calling the best Player CB irons with the least offset
In our forums, our members have been discussing Player CB irons after WRXer ‘sdsarmaduk’ asked for suggestions on a CB iron with a similar amount of offset to a blade. Our members have been putting forward their thoughts on the subject, with lots of different irons receiving a mention.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- bvanlieu: “Few low offset models of JDM models are out there (Miura and others) so if the world version is not to your liking see how the JDM stacks up. I have P770s which are 2.4mm on the 7, seems most clubs in this category are in the 2-3mm range on the 7. I don’t see any easy place to see the offset specs of miuras, but my world version of the CB-1008s I believe are sub 2mm on the 7i as they are less than my 770s for sure :)”
- Nixhex524: “Honma 737v, looks-wise, has the least amount of offset I have seen in a CB… fantastic looking clubs.”
- mcc0819: “Cobra Pro Forged CB very minimal offset. Off the top of my head, I believed the offset is 1.5 mm.”
- juststeve: “Titleist 620 CB.”
- yesac104: “Cobra King Forged CB’s. 7 Iron is 1.5. Buttery!!!!”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

There are no major manufacturer clubs that are better than others. It’s what you like, being properly fitted for loft, lie, shaft, & grip. If it works for you then it’s the best.
