WRX Spotted: TaylorMade SIM Fairways on USGA list
The USGA Conforming List just keeps on giving today.
We already told you about and speculated on the new 2020 TaylorMade driver here (WRX Spotted: TaylorMade SIM Drivers) but with a bit more digging (using the search function), we also found the new line of SIM Fairway Woods on the USGA list too.
From everything that we can tell, the new fairway lineup from TaylorMade with work alongside the SIM drivers with three models, similar to how the 2019 M5 and M6 lines were differentiated
- a Premium Titanium Model SIM with full adjustability: SIM
- a Standard Steel Model with no hosel adjustability: SIM MAX
- a Type D Model with built-in draw bias and no adjustability: SIM MAX-D
V-Steel is BACK!?!
A long-time has passed since the original V-Steel fairway woods we’re launched and became an icon. It looks as if the folks at TaylorMade are bringing back at least part of the sole design since they put it in writing right on the sole of the SiM towards the toe and feature it prominently on the sole of the MAX too.
Based on further observations, the SIM Titanium Model (above) will, much like the M5 before it, have a massive amount of weight placed in the sole to lower CG and increase launch—we can assume it’s tungsten based on its mass of 80g, but it’s hard to tell if it’s going to offer the CG adjustability of the M5.
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
