Forum Thread of the Day: “Your current favorite wedges and why?”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from JoeFrigo who asks WRXers what is their favorite current wedge on the market and why. Our members give their picks, and as usual, provide plenty of useful feedback for those looking to change up their wedge game for the new year.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • jimmy2xtimes: “Ping Glide 2.0 ES 58* – my go to club for all short game and sand needs. super versatile from any lie – also great for full swings.”
  • aenemated: “Absolutely love my Miura 52°. Great look and feel and just a simple, perfect little wedge.”
  • kylmemd: “My Vega VW 10’s raw black. Awesome. Even better with the Paderson Kinetixx wedge shafts in them. 120 gram and feel great. Shafts are Low- Mid trajectory with plenty of spin. Actually surprising how these suckers spin. I’ve hit some super low, spinning like heck wedge shots with these. The grind fits my game well. Loads of confidence with these in my hands. Carry 52 and 58. I have a 60 also I can put in but just don’t need to carry it much. 58 is plenty low loft for my needs. And gaps are right.”
  • colecoop26: “I love the Mizuno t20 wedges. They just feel different at impact, and it works for me. I tried all the top wedges before landing on this one.”

Mizuno MP T5 wedges. 1025E carbon steel. Classic, great looking, lots of loft, lie options. Can get brand new for about half price on EBay.

51 degree Miura 1957 Series Y grind. Simple, clean, no-nonsense club that rewards exactly what I bring to the swing.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
