Forum Thread of the Day: “What’s new in your bag for 2020?”
Today’s Forum Thread of the Day comes from wcdixon who asks WRXers what’s new in their bags for 2020. Plenty of our members are making changes for the new year, and here they documented those alterations which range from subtle switches to full-bag makeovers.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- MattM97: “Only thing that will probably change in my bag is my 3W, hybrid/UI and the shaft in my driver. For the most part, I’m happy with my bag after I was fit last year just going to finish my bag fitting soon. The other thing is I hope to thin down my putter collection and just stick to a few putters in my collection since I really want to drop my handicap and playing various putters can’t help that.”
- tannyhoban: “I picked up a Callaway 2018 X Series 3 wood with red X and accents on the sole. Project X 5.5 LZ production (not Hand Crafted) shaft. It’s a very solid club. Had store credit, it was lightly used and dirt cheap. I am getting good launch with distance, and it’s easy to find the center of the face. Very good performance for a made for club. Thought I’d throw that one out there for those on a tight budget.”
- macedan: “I’m hoping to keep change to a minimum in 2019. Currently, I have switched from a FlexTech Lite to a Flextech Crossover. Still light enough to carry but much better for pushing/riding than the Lite was. Although I am content with my current bag, I’ll be switching to an all Taylormade bag, so last week I traded in for a new ’17 M2 driver. Wedges will either be replaced around Christmas or in the new year. I aim to replace my 58* RTX-3 with a Hi-Toe or Milled Grind Black and my CBX with a Milled Grind in Chrome.”
- Ger21: “After six years, dropping the Nike VR Pro LE woods in favor of Bridgestone. Driver – Tour B XD-7. 3w – Tour B XD-F. 2 & 3 hybrids – Tour B D-H. Pulling the DG S300 from the VR Pro blades and replacing them with AMT Tour White S300, in Black Onyx, with BB&F ferrules. Making a grip change, currently testing the CP2 Pro and Iomic iXx. Leaning towards the CP2 Pro’s.”
- jimmy2xtimes: “Mizuno ST190 9.5* w/ Atmos Black Tour Spec. I finally found a driver that could beat my beloved TaylorMade R510 TP w/ Speeder 757, and I’ve tried them all. Would never have imagined that Mizuno would be the one to do it either.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

I am adding the new PR 2.0 broom wedge. They say it makes moving sand much easier.
