WRX Spotlight: Lynx Prowler VT Driver with Switch-Face Technology
Product: Lynx Prowler VT Driver with Switch-Face Technology (the first driver to feature interchangeable club faces)
Pitch: From Lynx: “Switch-Face Technology is an idea that has taken the best part of a decade to perfect and produce. Various innovations in the past have tinkered with removable and replaceable faces on drivers – primarily for the purposes of changing the sound generated while striking the ball – but none of them have ever proved successful long-term.”
“The concept was borne out of the desire to give golfers true loft change options for the first time in an adjustable driver so, while adjustable hosel drivers, including other models in the Lynx range, do give golfers multiple options to configure their clubheads, setting and maintaining the perfect true loft and face angle combination for their own individual swing becomes almost impossible.”

Our take on the Lynx Prowler VT Driver with Switch-Face Technology
After a solid drive, you might have said “I hit it on the screws!” in your life. Well in 2019, you actually can. Lynx has taken a different approach to adjustability in a driver. Instead of using an adjustable adapter in the hosel to change the loft of the club, with the Prowler VT driver, you swap out the face by turning five small screws. That’s right. The whole face.
We were admitted skeptics when we first heard of the Lynx VT Prowler driver. We might even have chuckled a bit (we did). Nonetheless, we were intrigued. We tried it out and the verdict is….hey, that’s actually…not too bad. Good look at address. Good sound. Good ball flight. Chalk us up as “pleasantly surprised.” Now understand we didn’t put this through its paces on-course or deep dive into launch monitor testing and dial it in, but the initial reaction was positive.

Before you run out to purchase, we do have some long-term questions. How will the design hold up over time? Will the screws keep the face secure during an entire round? Is that hosel design going to hold up? What rule enacted by the USGA are we potentially breaking by putting this in our bag? (Kidding about the last one — kind of).
Still, for $500, you’re getting a driver with two faces with true adjustability of face angle and loft. We’re pleasantly surprised.
The Prowler VT is available in five different lofts (8,9,10,11 and 12 degrees) with varying open and closed settings (2-degrees closed, 1-degree closed, square, 1-degree open and 2-degrees open), giving golfers 25 different face and loft angles. Orange/Black or White/Black models available.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Are you allowed to change the characteristics of a club during a round??? On a positive note – could add golfer’s duct tape (lead tape) inside the head…
