Bridgestone Tour B XW-1 wedges: new grooves, different soles for different lofts (2019 PGA Show)
Bridgestone’s Tour B XW-1 wedges are the softest and highest spinning wedges ever designed for better players, according to the company.
How? Bridgestone’s proprietary Biting Rail Milled grooves.
“Low-Mid handicappers are going to love the control and feel that our new Tour B XW-1 Wedges deliver,” said Zack Kupperbusch, Golf Club Marketing Manager – Bridgestone Golf. “The combination of the industry’s most premium forging and our new Biting Rail Milled grooves provide unparalleled softness and optimum spin on a variety of short shots.”

Forged from 1020 mild carbon steel, the XW-1 Wedge series is designed with three separate sole configurations, with each being tailored to the particular club.
- The F (Flat) sole is found in the 50-degree gap wedge, and intended to optimize turf interaction on full or mid-range approach shots providing added stability at impact for a more penetrating ball flight.
- The M Sole, or the “Multi-Purpose Sole” characteristic of the 52, 54, 58 and 60-degree wedges, focuses on providing versatility for all the varying shots one would hit during a round. From hooded bump-and-runs to open-flange flop shots, the M-Sole delivers maximum controllability.
- The A Sole, or the “Forgiving Sole,” offers supreme forgiveness in the 56-degree wedge, whether you’re hitting an explosion shot to get out of a steep face bunker, or pin-hunting from the fairway.

The XW-1 wedges are available in right-hand only and in a satin chrome finish only. A Nippon Modus Tour 105 stiff shaft is stock. With retail availability beginning March 1. MSRP: $139.99 per club.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

I can’t wait for the day a golf company comes out with “we have nothing new, but think this looks nice” marketing.

Bridgestone irons/wedges are among the best performers I’ve ever used and I’ve gamed many. Maybe just a head thing for me but I love Bridgestone.

I would love to test those wedges. Kind of drifting towards Bridgestone although I am a Titleist fanboy. The price is right and the shaft is defenitely right.
