Forum Thread of the Day: “Scotty Cameron Prototype Mallet Putters”

Published

on

Today’s Forum Thread of the Day showcases the new Scotty Cameron Prototype Mallet Putters that have been on display at this week’s Sony Open. The thread was started by easyyy after our forum moderator Pitbull808 sourced the photos, and while the majority of our members appear less than impressed, some are keen on the new designs.

Check out all of the photos of the new designs in our forum thread here.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • Putterdough91: “Uhhh maybe Scotty designed these over the Christmas holidays after a few too many drinks.. “
  • sbjinx: “It looks like the more futuristic version of the spyder and spyder mini. I think these look way better than the Newport with wings abomination.”
  • ProStryker: “I’m a big Scotty fan, but these are horrible. His stuff seems to keep declining. Everyone is clamoring for a solid head like the old Scotty’s, and he keeps going far in the opposite direction. Disappointing.”
  • collindm1: “I honestly don’t think they look that bad.  I’ll reserve judgment until I roll them.  These are prototypes; he’s allowed to try things that some of the guys on tour might use and put in play.  He does consult with tour pros on occasion.  Hence, Jimmy Walker ditching the T Lamb blade and putting one of these Scotty’s in play.”

Wow, nice PXG Operator/Spyder. Another dud for the collection.

An improvement in looks. Is the slant a little less pronounced or is it just the angle?
Would look better with longer wings like the traditional Spiders but I like the alignment lines. Been debating on getting a Spider and might have to give this one a go.

A YES! Milly and TM Spider love child…. This is the worst putter SC has made to date. Who approved this to go to market?

Still with the heel shaft? Call me when you put the shaft in the center, where it belongs.

Centre shaft in the driver and irons too, I say.

Hitting a driver is macho….. putting a putter is wimpy ….. anybody who ‘lovss’ a putter is exposing their gonadal predilections.

Don’t worry I’m sure they will keep making Newport classic putters that you have been missing 3 footers for the last 20 years with.

Beautiful, breathtaking, big putter statement that is not an Anser knockoff. These Scotty’s will sell like hotcakes because they are clean functional designs that will make golfers proud to putt. I love that yellow indicia top lines on the black background. One suggestion, the yellow line should have been extended down the putter face to show the sweet spot. Cost?

btw these are not prototypes. There is no way he is going to change anything within a month before these all go to market. These things are being milled and put together in China as we speak.

Looks like Christopher Nolan and Robert Bettinardi went drinking and made a putter together.

Lost massive amounts of business to TM and EVNROLL, eh, Scotty?
That’s what happens when you flog putters to the public that even the Tour pros don’t use.
So now you decide to copy some of the others designs (yet again) to try to catch up and profit
    Pathetic

Why do they still let Adam Scott dictate putter designs? Dude hasn’t made a putt since the Bush administration.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
