FootJoy introduces three new Pro/SL shoes
FootJoy is introducing a new version of its Pro/SL shoe, with three new models available now and three more to come in January.
The new Pro/SL, which the company calls “the hottest shoe in golf,” features an expected waterproof leather upper, but the more intriguing technology is contained in a three-layer midsole/outsole system. It features Fine-Tuned Foam (FTF), which is 10 percent lighter than conventional EVA foam, according to FootJoy.
FootJoy emphasizes both the comfort and stability, as well as the traction benefits of 223 individual points of ground contact. An exploded view of the system below.

On Tour, Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter, Kevin Na, Charley Hoffman, Peter Uihlein, Patrick Cantlay, Cameron Smith and Andrew “Beef” Johnston, among others, sport the shoes, says FootJoy.

“Of all the shoes I’ve worn throughout my career, these are by far the most comfortable,” said Ian Poulter. “I get great grip in wet and dry conditions, plus with the BOA system, I can dial in the fit and comfort to get exactly what I want.”
Styles ($175 Laced, $210 BOA)
- White navy red laced
- White/silver laced
- Black/silver BOA
- Grey/white laced (1/15/19)
- Black/black laced (1/15/19)
- White/indigo BOA (1/15/19)

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Its a sucker that the BOA version only comes in black. Otherwise I like them – need to replace my first gen pair finally.

I personally preferred the look of the previous model…Stock up while they are on sale…not much else apart from the styling seemed to have changed.

My latest, I mean last pair of Footjoys, had a bumpy sole that hurt my feet right through the insole. No more for me.

From experience they have a pretty good customer service department…Tell them and you’ll probably be able to switch to a new one.

I want to like these shoes but Footjoy loves to make the narrowest toebox area of any manufacture.
