The new Srixon Q-Star Tour golf ball, made softer for less spin on full shots

Published

on

The original Q-Star Tour golf ball was unique because it was a three-piece golf ball with a urethane cover, but it sold for $10 cheaper than the company’s “premium” options. Srixon called the Q-Star Tour the “most spin for your money.”

Now, the company has announced a new Q-Star Tour model golf ball with upgrades to the original — but at the same price point.

The new Q-Star Tour golf ball has an even softer core than the original offering. This soft core — but firmer outer layer — works to help golfers with moderate swing speeds to launch the ball higher, and it’s designed to spin less on full shots. That means the ball should go higher and straighter.

Yes, less spin on full shots, but more spin on greenside shots, according to Srixon.

The softer core is in addition to third-generation “spin skin” coating from Srixon, which is an elastic coating that is said to create more spin around the greens. The new spin skin is said to interact better with the grooves of your wedge. Also, the Q-Star Tour golf ball has the same 338 dimple pattern as the premium offerings in Srixon’s stable; the pattern is designed to reduce drag and increase lift for a stable, penetrating flight.

The Srixon Q-Star Tour is available now in both Pure White and Tour Yellow for $29.99 per dozen.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
