Jimmy Walker spotted testing a Titleist prototype driver?

Published

on

As spotted by GolfWRX Forum Member “anthony007,” Jimmy Walker was shown on the Golf Channel’s Morning Drive hitting an unidentified driver at the Warrior Open.

In anthony007’s forum post, along with the photo, he asks the question “Is this a new Driver from Titleist?”

Well, it’s hard to tell from the grainy photo exactly what the driver says on the sole. But then Jimmy Walker himself posted on Twitter saying: “Great catch! Its always fun to test new prototypes and the [Titleist on Tour] guys have given me some cool toys to play with that are incredible – but unfortunately I can’t talk about them yet!”

While the response is a bit cryptic, it does seem that Walker confirms he was indeed testing a Titleist prototype driver.

Going by previous product release cycles, Titleist would be due to release a new 919D driver later this year – assuming that they keep to a similar product release schedule.

Will they ever discover the ultimate driver… or will we be waterboarded continuously with another new and improved version of the previous new and improved version …?!!

Small annual incremental improvements lead to great improvements over time.

Planned obsolescence strategy? Great technological discoveries do not emerge on an annual basis. It’s a marketing strategy because the gullible childish golfers want to buy and own the latest ‘toys’ to cover up their swing incompetence.

Clearly, you don’t understand the concept of consumerism. The point of all these new releases is to keep us buying. TaylorMade have been peddling the myth that each successive set of irons is significantly outperforming its predecessors when, in fact, what they have been doing is tinkering with the aesthetics, strengthening the lofts and lengthening the shafts. For instance, the 4 iron of the M4 irons is 19 degrees which is (or used to be) standard 2 iron loft. They know golfers want to kid themselves they are hitting 7 irons when, in reality, they are hitting a 5. This sleight of hand is widespread across the industry and golfers being the suckers they are (and I include myself) lap it up. The shaft and the ball are the two key factors in increased distance. The driver heads themselves are, for the most part, window dressing.

WOW!!! You own a fantastic WITB arsenal of weapons that must plant fear an foreboding in the hearts and minds of your golfing buddies and opponents. Or do you just want to show off your golf toys and gossip about them?

ProjectX is a neurotic gearheadbater who must flaunt his WITB weapons… and tell everybody why he made his intrinsic personal choices…. and hopes everybody will be envious of his clubheads, shafts, putter and ball because he’s a playah …:-o

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
