Video: Cobra AMP Cell Driver vs. ZL Encore

Published

Updated Jan 17, 2013

We took the Cobra AMP Cell driver for a test drive at Miles of Golf at Ypsilanti, Mich., to get an early look at launch angle, spin rate and ball speed, and to see if Cobra’s MyFly and Smart Pad technologies worked as advertised.

We tested it on a Trackman against the Cobra ZL Encore driver (9.5 degrees) and crunched the numbers.

Take a look and go into the forums to see the discussions about this and the other new Cobra launches for 2013.

The Cobra AMP Cell driver had a stock Fujikura Fuel X Flex shaft. It is 45.75 inches long, weighs 63 grams, and is a mid-torque shaft with a high kick point.  The ZL Encore had a stock Fujikura Motore F1 shaft. Like the AMP Cell, it is an X-flex shaft of the same length, but it weighed in a little lighter at 55 grams. The Motore F1 shaft has a mid-launch, mid-spin profile. Still Waiting your evaluation of the Cobra AMP.
The sudden change to the re shafted ZL, and no further mention of the Driver at bar?
    What is up here folk?

The Cobra AMP Cell is one of the best new drivers on the market. I’ve had mine for about 6 weeks now the results have been amazing.

The most pleasing thing about the driver is the extra carry you get off the tee. Because of this you get extra distance as well. It is so easy to hit and the feel you get from a solid hit is great.

I would recommend the Cobra AMP Cell to any golfer out there looking for a better performing driver.

It is now more than 3 months after you had this Cobra AMP driver, how is it doing? Still good?

By the way what is your handy cap?

Love my ZL… have it shafted with a Project X Black in 6.0.
    A long distance target shooter…

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
