Ping launches limited-edition Ketch putters in camo

Published

on

In January, Ping officially announced a custom-putter program called PLD1 (Ping Putting Lab Design) that allows any golfer to create a one-off, fully customized beauty like the pros. Today, the company is showing off a new level of customization with a limited-edition putter launch.

Ping has released two versions of what it’s calling its PLD2 putters — the Camo Ketsch Realtree Xtra and the Camo Ketsch Muddy Girl — that are “part of the lab’s effort to advance new putter design, technology and engineering concepts,” according to the company.

In this case, the camo graphics are the advancement Ping cooked up in its lab. They were added to the putters with a proprietary anodized sealing process called “Permodize,” which permeates the aluminum putter heads to create “vibrant and rich detail while creating an extremely hard, durable shell,” according to Ping’s Chairman and CEO John A. Solheim.

Solheim says the Ketch putter model was chosen specifically for the camo design because of its complex geometry, which “challenged [Ping] to execute the process to its fullest extent.” And according to Solheim, more of this can be expected from his company in the future.

“This type of technology has functional and decorative applications that we look forward to utilizing in the future,” he said.

Beginning today, golfers can order the PLD2 Camo Ketsch Realtree Xtra and Camo Ketsch Muddy Girl putters ($325 each) through Ping authorized golf shops.

Call me crazy but I appreciate custom runs like this for companies outside of golf, and if i had the extra cash i’d purchase one, just to be different and to annoy the S*** out of traditionalists

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
