U.S. Team melts down, Europe wins the Ryder Cup
By Zak Kozuchowski
GolfWRX Managing Editor
The U.S. Ryder Cup Team suffered one of the worst meltdowns in Ryder Cup history, losing eight of the 12 Singles Matches on Sunday to hand Team Europe a 14.5-13.5 victory at the 39th Ryder Cup.
The U.S. Team led by as much as a six-point margin on Saturday, although Europe closed the day with two wins to make the score 10-6 entering Sunday. The U.S. needed only 4.5 points at Medinah on Sunday to win the Ryder Cup, but key losses by Phil Mickelson to Justin Rose, Jim Furyk to Sergio Garica and Steve Stricker to Martin Kaymer earned Europe its fourth Ryder Cup win in the last five Ryder Cup Matches.

If this is not a melt down I’d hate to see what is. We had this Cup in our hands. I dont like the order DL3 picked for Sunday nor his captains picks! We lost it. Period

I thought Phil showed real class on the 16th as did Davis. Poulter must live for the Ryder cup, what a game.

Not a meltdown just a great batlle with some spectacularly feisty performances. What a game!!!!!

Superb Europe victory. It certainly was ‘Seve inspired’ Have to agree with above comments. No Fowler or Mahan????Those guys had guts at Celtic Manor last time.
Phil Mickleson a true gentleman, Thumbs up and applauding Justin Rose when he followed his putt in on the 16th. A nice touch from a nice guy.
Jose Maria has to stay captain!!!!!

Europe won. All 24 players gave their all for 3 days. And I was lucky enough to see most of it live on TV. I hope I can watch it live someday. I have only played this game for a short time and never played at a high level in this sport but I could feel the emotions of the players as they made or missed a shot starting on Friday. I was pulling for USA, and screaming (swearing) every time the ball lipped out or burned the edge. I was reminded all weekend of what makes GOLF enjoyable and agonizing. Just my take

Stricker and Furyk combined go 1-7. Not good picks – should have taken Fowler and Mahan. This is a young man’s sport now.

Agreed, Fowler went 3-1 as a captains pick when he was less experienced and win less on Tour. Jason Dufner continues to impress me with his on course demeanor he looks cool and calm but their is a quiet intensity also.

Rickie went 0-1-2 in the last Ryder Cup.

My mistake, your correct and that is still better than Furyk’s 0-2-1 in 2010.
Fowler may not have done any better but Furyk was a suspect pick this year as he has had a couple meltdowns coming down the stretch and his past Ryder Cup record is poor.

Europe lost so many matches on Friday and Saturday mainly due to poor putting within 10 feet. Today was American’s turn often giving away holes when it should have been halved.
It may seem like home field advantage but when you start the day in a dominant position you’re expected to win while the Europeans played like they have nothing to lose and everything to play for.
American’s didn’t play with the same aggressiveness they did over the first two days. It looked more like playing not to lose rather then playing to shut up shop early.
I don’t think golfers are suited to playing the crowd like other team athletes are – a bit embrassing to see Bubba asking the crowd to step up on his first tee shot then proceeding to pulling it right. Soon after he was down to Donlad and pretty much never recovered….

This is the first Ryder cup I ever see,
I´m new to Golf, but call this a meltdown
it´s not fair, what a magnificent shots
I see today, this 24 boys did a good job
for the game I loved.

It was not a meltdown. Europeans played fantastic, so did US. The cup was won by Europe, not lost by US. Best afternoon of golf ever. Margins as minute as Furyks lip out on16 wins or looses the cup. I felt in the end it did not really matter which side won. Epic.

Long live the spirit of Seve!.
Congrats to Europe, what a comeback.
My respect to Davis Love, a true gentleman while they were smashing Europe and a true gentleman in defeat.
