Report: McIlroy to use TaylorMade M2 driver in China

Published

on

Updated 10/25/16: Rory was spotted practicing with TaylorMade’s M2 driver and fairway woods at the WGC-HSBC Champions on Monday.

Is Rory McIlroy ready to switch golf equipment already? According to No Laying Up’s Chris Solomon, the No. 3-ranked golfer in the world is prepared to put TaylorMade’s M2 driver and fairway woods in the bag at the WGC-HSBC Champions this week in China, and he has the launch monitor numbers to prove it.

Those numbers seem reasonable given the Trackman screen shots we’ve seen Rors post in the past. Giving more credence to the report is that fellow long-hitting, Nike Golf staffer Brooks Koepka has ditched his Nike driver in favor of TaylorMade’s M2.

The last time we saw McIlroy on the course was at the Ryder Cup, where he was using the Nike Vapor Fly Pro driver he had in the bag throughout 2016.

Just be careful…..look at Day driving the M1/2. Duck hooks and block right OB’s, his driving was terrible this
year. Rory could probably hit anything well, but those
TM clubs prove very erratic. Since the SLDR them TM faces have been unstable. Fore!!!

Would seem a logical switch, they are the No1 products on the market and TM don’t mind putting a few $$$$’s in the back pocket of the guys using them.

He should try Long Drive next year just for the heck of it, I mean he might as well,, there’s no Ryder Cup so he’ll have time in his schedule to go to Oklahoma

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
