Aldila’s new Rogue M-AX shaft has already won on the PGA Tour
We spotted a new shaft from Aldila at the 2016 Wells Fargo Championship, called the Rogue M-AX (stands for Multi-Axial). It got off to a fast start, with James Hahn using a 65-gram version of the shaft in his driver for his playoff win.

The M-AX will appeal to golfers in search of a low-to-mid-launching shaft, but can also offer benefits in stability and energy transfer because of its “flat-tow” woven construction, says John Oldenburg, Vice President of Engineering at Aldila.
The flat-tow weave is employed throughout the shaft, and uses fibers that are 30 percent stiffer than what’s typical. To create the construction, the fibers are spread out, which flattens them to maximize their structural benefit. They’re then layered in multiple axises (0 and 90 degrees to the shaft axis) to help the shaft maintain its shape as it bends. For that reason, golfers may see a tighter dispersion from the M-AX than Aldila’s popular Rogue shafts.
“Think of it like a garden hose; a tube that tends to crush and crease when you bend it,” Oldenburg says. “This [multi-axial] technology is a stabilizer for that effect in the shaft.”

The biggest difference between the Rogue and the M-AX shafts, however, is that the Rogue is counterbalanced, which means it has more weight in the handle of the shaft. It also has a more “tapered” profile, which leads to a smoother feel. The Aldila M-AX, on the other hand, has a longer, larger parallel butt section that delivers a “firm and sharp feel,” according to Oldenburg.
The Rogue M-AX ($449) will be released later this year, along with a higher-launching Rogue M-AX model.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
