Next for Ben Hogan: Two new iron models, moveable-weight hybrids

Published

on

The Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company announced a return to the golf equipment business in May of last year to much fanfare, following a seven-year absence. See our piece on the company’s return here.

Perry Ellis International, owner of the Hogan brand since 2012, selected Eidolon Brands, LLC to produce the first Hogan irons in a decade. The company introduced the Ft. Worth 15 irons and TK 15 wedges in January, and they began shipping in April. See our piece on the Ft. Worth 15 and TK 15 introduction here.

Response to the iconic golf brand’s new weaponry has been favorable, to say the least, and with the PGA Merchandise show coming up next month, it’s a fitting time to ask, “What’s next for the Hogan company?”

CEO Terry Koehler addressed that question in a recent email, and I spoke with Digital Marketing Manager Tyler Brewton to flesh out the details.

The company will introduce a hollow iron, the Ft. Worth 15 hi, to blend into the Ft. Worth 15 iron set. The higher-launching, more-forgiving irons will be available in lofts from 20 to 31 degrees.

Ft-WORTH-HIThe company is also slated to introduce PTx irons, which will Koehler claims “will introduce a completely new concept in pure forged irons that delivers unbelievable feel, unmatched distance consistency, and more spin and green-holding performance than any other game improvement iron.”

The perimeter-weighted iron set will be available in lofts from 20-47 degrees and is expected to begin shipping in April.

Finally the company, which has recently begun experimenting with metal woods and metal wood technology, plans to introduce a yet-unnamed hybrid club. We can confirm that the hybrid will feature moveable weights and place a premium on spin production.

They changed actually where it is now 2-Ft. Worths or 2-TKs for $19.95 or 2 for $29.95. Cool concept. Wonder if they will do it with the new clubs.

I did the demo back in May. My information was a tad bit out of date. Its good they modified the program to include the wedges.

Hmmmm, I may have to try the wedges.

I hear ya. I signed up for their email notifications when they were going live and dropped it right after due to this. I am assuming we are not the target demographic.

You can demo the new Hogan Irons and Wedges at any PGA Tour Superstore. You may also order a set of 3 irons from Hogan Direct to demo for 30 days for $29.95

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
