KBS releases Tour FLT iron shafts

Published

on

Shaft manufacturer KBS is known for its big selection of iron shafts, which just got bigger. The company has announced a new model called the KBS Tour FLT, which the company says will fit the broadest range of players of any of its seven other available iron shaft models — everyone from average amateurs to PGA Tour players.

Like other flighted iron shafts, the Tour FLT is designed to help golfers hit their long irons higher for more distance and stopping power, and their short irons lower for better trajectory control. The 7 iron shaft marks the tipping point between the lower-launching and higher-launching shafts, but of course, the change is gradual.

The Tour FLT is available in five flexes, which correspond with four weights: R (110 grams), R+ (115 grams), S (120 grams), S+ (125 grams) and X (130 grams).

Each shaft is available 3-9, PW, SW in a stepped, chrome finish with a 0.355-inch diameter. The Tour FLT will be available Dec. 15 and sell for $31.95 per shaft.

Looking forward to ordering the new hybrids fitted with these new Tour KBS shafts. I recently bought a 3 iron thru pitching wedge and two additional sand wedges. Love the way the new irons allow me to move the ball right and left on demand. Played a lot a blades in my life but I haven’t felt this good over shot making since the Wilson X-31 irons and the Hogan Apex 1 irons from the 70’s. Definitely a player’s set of irons! FYI – Leichman, from Australia, just won on The European Tour this week with his Hogan irons in South Africa. Almost won The Open this summer! I’m predicting Hogan & Wilson to experience a renaissance in the industry the next few years!

    Hi Zak,

From the kbs website, the tour 90 shaft is rather mid/hight launch and not on the same level with the mid launch tour-V.

    Thanks

Are they really so expensive given the quality of the product? And they feel so good to hit…

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
