Vokey Releases Limited Edition Indigo 452 Wedges

Published

on

Vokey’s WedgeWorks is back to blue with its release of its limited-edition Vokey Spin Milled 452 Indigo wedges. The lustrous clubs were released this month, but precedent says they will sell out quickly.

The 400 series shape is slightly altered from Vokey’s SM4 wedges, with increased offset, a higher heel and a more rounded toe peak. The wedges feature a medium width sole, trailing edge ribbon and heel relief for versatility in shot making. They have 8 degrees of bounce and the latest SM4 grooves, but even though the wedges are designed to be gamed their beautiful finish will leave you hesitant to take a divot.

The 452’s are treated with Vokey’s Indigo PVD finish that gives them their blue appearance. After extensive play, the finish will wear but won’t rust. They cost $225 each, but you get what you pay for – custom Limited Edition wedges from the hands of Bob Vokey and the WedgeWorks team.

Customization is no issue, with plenty of options on grips shafts and personalization at no extra charge. The standard shaft is a KBS Custom Series Black Matte with a Vokey Multi-Compund Blue grip, but other combinations of shaft and grip are available. Vokey also offers four characters of personalization at no charge.

Seems your sight will be impaired either through glare or the stunning blue color!

Is the colored club heads going to be a new trend? First, we’re seeing different colored driver heads, now wedges, and I assume irons will be next.

Of course color on the clubhead is a gimmick. I love it though. Looks great. Too bad it wears off easily.

I love these. I’d really love a different color for each wedge. I looked at the Feel wedges but didn’t care particularly for their specific colors.

For some people that hit 300 balls a day plus 3 rounds a week.. I don’t want to see a different color wedge every time I address the club because of wear.. . with that said they are sweet looking.

Didn’t they release these a couple of years ago but it was a 58 deg. I owned one of those and quickly got rid of it after playing it. The finish also wears pretty quick especially the face and sole. Had no problem selling it though. I do think the old 400 series Vokey wedges were the best he has done.

I wonder when James Patrick is going to start his line of wedges for Titleist, I have heard that he is only going to be for Japanese Market, But have also heard JP is going to take over Vokey’s TVD and custom department. Does anyone have an idea or an update from JP?

Blue Wedges! If TMag did this, we’d be reviling them with buckets of venom right now. But it’s Titleist and Vokey so we must reverentially take a knee.

Mark You stole my Thunder. If TMAG put out this introduction there would be 50-100 posts blasting the gimmick within minutes

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
