Nike releases VR_S Covert Junior golf clubs
Got a youngster at home that you want to get into golf?
Nike wants you to get them started on the right track with its VR_S Covert Junior golf clubs, which are designed in two different sizes for different age groups.
Size 1 (retailing for $159) will come with a driver, 7 iron, sand wedge, milled flat-face putter and lightweight Nike stand bag. Size two (retail at $199) will come with all the same clubs and bag but will also add a hybrid and 9 iron to the set.
The set has been designed to help your young golfer get the ball in the air by using lightweight graphite shafts, adding a little bit of extra loft to the driver and making the soles of the irons a little wider. The bag also has a double-strap bag to make sure the weight is properly distributed across the golfer’s back.
To ensure the youngsters see no difference between their new clubs and what Nike’s Tour players are using, the heads will feature the glossy red paint job equipped with the white Nike swoosh on the crown side of the heel, just like Tiger and Rory.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Set 1 7-9
Set 2 9-11
A scale on the box lets you measure finger tip-to-floor-distance for easy choice of set size.

This is actually pretty exciting. My 9 yer old daughter is maxing out her current set, and will be due for new ones this spring. The callaway set up is nice, but retails for an extra $50. We’ll definitely be taking a peek at these.
(plus, I wonder if this means that a discount will be hitting the SQ junior set soon?)
