K. Bradley changes to prototype Cleveland irons

Published

on

Keegan Bradley changed irons this week at the Memorial Tournament, trading out his trusty set of Cleveland CG7 Tour irons for a set of Cleveland’s new 588 TC irons.

If you haven’t heard of the TC, or “Tour Custom” irons before, it’s because they’re currently a tour-only product, and are used by only one other player on Clevleand’s staff — David Toms.

The 588 TC irons are more compact than Cleveland’s current 588 TT irons, with smaller blade lengths and blade heights. They also have less offset in the 3 through 7 irons, and an adjustable weight port in the cavity that allows for swing weight adjustments.

Bradley has the same shafts in the TC’s as his previous irons, True Temper Dynamic Gold X100 that are 0.75 inches longer than standard. His set makeup hasn’t changed either — he’s still playing two 4 irons — a Cleveland 588 MT that measures 21 degrees and plays like a 3 iron, as well as a TC 4 iron that measures 25 degrees.

According to Keith Patterson, media and public relations manager for Cleveland Golf, the 588 TC irons are slated for a February release.

Here’s Bradley’s full 588 TC iron specs:

  • 5 iron: 27  degrees, 62 degree lie angle
  • 6 iron: 31 degrees, 62.5 degree lie angle
  • 7 iron: 35 degrees, 63 degree lie angle
  • 8 iron: 39 degrees, 64 degree lie angle
  • 9 iron: 43 degrees, 65 degree lie angle
  • Wedge: 47 degrees, 65 degree lie angle

Bradley uses Lamkin X Line Cord grips. All of the swing weights on his irons are D5.5.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
