2012 Odyssey Flip Face Putter

Published

on

Here’s just one of the Odyssey Flip Face Putters for 2012.

What Odyssey Says:
These putters, known as Flip Face or FF, feature a face that literally flips using a simple tool. In one setting the ball will impact a firmer new metal insert known as Metal X and in the other a softer more traditional Odyssey White Ice insert. The technology gives the player the option to adjust the feel and performance of the putter to their liking or course conditions. The putters are slated to be in stores April, 13th with a street price of $349.99.

This is the Flip Face 5. This is a rounded mallet with a single-bend shaft and full-shaft offset.

Metal-X Insert:

Lightweight aluminum outer layer utilizes oval depressions to maximize the Coefficient of Friction, which helps quickly generate straighter topspin for reduced skidding and the truest roll in the game
Urethane inner layer provides soft feel and saves weight to optimize performance

White Ice Insert:

Multi-layer insert has been fine-tuned to enhance sound, responsiveness, resiliency and consistency
Inner core enhances feel and resiliency, leading to consistent distance control
Face surface has been roughened to enhance the sound at impact with softer golf balls and increase friction to promote forward roll

Satin Chrome Finish provides a premium, beautiful look that is a favorite on Tour. Lamkin 3GEN Pistol Grip is thin, smaller pistol shape appeals to better players. Made of Lamkin’s proprietary 3GEN material, which is their softest synthetic rubber compound and reduces vibration without dulling the feel of the putt. Allows golfers to keep forearms relaxed, apply very light grip pressure and minimize hand tension for smooth, consistent strokes.

Just know that 3/4 of the price goes to pay the pros who play them and advertising

Manufacturers seem committed to the idea that “High Price” suggests “Better Performance”. … Usually “not true” but that won’t stop us from testing to see what a club can do. …Nothing wrong with this but “who” can afford “new equipment” especially with an economy so dreadful that Golf Courses have to close??

For years I used a putter from the Caveman era of golf until I discovered this putter. On slow greens I prefer the metal insert, on fast greens it is the white insert. The putter is remarkably well balanced in either position. They go for nothing because apparently they were a market failure of some sort. I got mine for $57.

It might be expensive but you should try it out first. This putter is awesome. Don’t knock until you try it.

SO is there going to be a new rule? You can only adjust the face of your putter before the round?!?!?! This is getting out of hand.

They should have made more faces on it like a driver, wedge and maybe a 5 iron.

what a piece of dog xxxx. Just buy two putters for 1/2 the price each and you can “adjust to course conditions”. what do the rules say you do if your putter falls apart into 6 pieces during a round?? are you allowed to reassemble?

when my putting tempo or swing tempo for that matter is good enough to discern between the harder/softer face of a putter and be able to get use out of it is the day I would consider a doctor Moro (sp?) contraption.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
