‘Wow, what a driver’ – GolfWRXer blown away by Titleist driver after fitting
In our forum, our members have been discussing Titleist’s GT3 driver. WRXer ‘PARETO’ recently went for a driver fitting, and was mightily impressed by the model from Titleist, saying:
“Thought it was time for a proper driver fitting. It’s been a few years so I figured this year seems like a good one to get up to date on my driver. I went in brand agnostic, with no preconceived notions of what I liked. I wanted the numbers to dictate things.
An hour later and after about 50 shots worth of data from all the usual contenders, an unexpected winner emerged.
I am not a Titleist guy but the GT3 at 10 degrees with H1 weight setting and a Denali Blue 60S (playing length of 45.5) emerged the winner. Wow. What a driver. Plus with new pricing on GT drivers, the order was placed. Colour me impressed.
Honourable mention to the QI4 core at 11 degrees. Also very very good. It produced great numbers. But at 25% more expensive, it lost the battle.
So bring on the season. At least my Big Stick is sorted.”
And our members have been reacting with their thoughts and experiences on the driver from Titleist.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- jls667: “I just switched to GT3 from TSR3 a few weeks ago after the price drop and a formal fitting. Excellent driver. Gave great numbers, feel was perfect for me (I personally like addition of carbon) and Titleist always makes clubs that are easy on the eye.”
- ThinToWin69420: “Love my GT3. Seems like the harder I swing it, the better I hit it. Great feeling for someone with a lot of scar tissue off the tee. A mental midget, if you will.”
- puttingmatt: “Really like my GT3 driver. So much in the south, may trade off the TSR3 in the northern bag.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
