Details on Scottie Scheffler’s Qi4D ‘5-wood spec in a 7-wood head’
Long-time observers of Scottie Scheffler’s winning WITB — a regular quantity in recent years — know well how the world No. 1 alternates between a Srixon utility iron and a high-lofted wood in the slot between his 3-wood and 4-iron.
At The American Express, Scheffler’s first victory of 2026, the Texan had a Qi4D 7-wood in the bag. Per TaylorMade, Scheffler sought an option in that slot that could reliably carry the ball 240 yards, something his 3-iron delivered only on his flushest of strikes.
The 7-wood solved that problem immediately. It launched nearly two degrees higher, spun about 1,500 RPM more, delivered 14.9 degree launch, 5,175 RPM of spin, and a 245-yard carry at 160 mph ball speed. In other words, reliable height and soft landings in a spot in the bag where Scheffler needs it.
TaylorMade senior tour manager Adrian Rietveld adjusted the build so it sat squarer at address and went farther, essentially disguising a 5-wood build in a 7-wood head.
“We fit his 3-wood shorter, so it did not go further than his desired distance with that club,” Rietveld said. “When you fit a standard 5-wood it goes too far. You don’t want to add loft to a 5-wood because it closes the face, so we built a 5-wood spec in a 7-wood head. It has the dynamics of a 5-wood but with the spin and launch conditions of a 7-wood to produce the carry number he wants with that club.”
The result? A precisely tuned tool: 20 degrees of loft, upright lie, Ventus Black 9 X shaft cut down for control with a heavy swingweight.

Full specs of Scheffler’s Qi4D 7-wood, below

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
