‘I bought them immediately’ – GolfWRXer left ‘absolutely stunned’ by these Cobra irons
In our forums, our members have been reacting to a post from a WRXer’s glowing review of Cobra’s 2023 hybrid T-Rail irons. WRXer ‘JNFan’ kicks off the thread with his story saying:
“So I am heading on the monitors at Golf Galaxy and I look over and see the used irons rack. And I see these cobra hybrid T-rail irons from 2023.
I thought these look interesting. I’ve seen some of these before. At age 70 I really lost some distance. I have to hit a five iron at the 150s now. So I grabbed a seven iron and with just a simple smooth swing it went 156. So then I swung a little harder and it went 160. So I tried all the other irons and I was absolutely stunned at how easy they were to swing and how I averaged about 15 yards further per club than my Mizuno‘s. On slightly off-center hits, I hardly lost any distance.
So of course, I bought them immediately. Went on YouTube and looked at reviews and all the reviewers are saying wow probably 90% of all golfers should be using something like this and I couldn’t disagree.”
And our members have been sharing their thoughts and reaction to the post in our forum.
Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- Roejye: “Seems like you put ego aside and are trying something that worked well for you.”
- tmax77: “Honestly these clubs actually feel really good and I agree with OP these clubs can be like cheater clubs if you can stand the look of them..seen these work miracles for some players.”
- gvogel:”I tried them and couldn’t get consistent shots. But at 73 I am more than willing to put a 7-hybrid in the bag. I could probably go 5, 6 and 7-hybrid from Ping.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
