Spotted: New Callaway Quantum driver at the Grant Thornton Invitational
With the GolfWRX forums currently in the shop for an upgrade, we’re bringing our tour photographer’s photos to the front page for the time being.
In that spirit, here’s our first in-hand look at Callaway’s Quantum driver (Quantum Triple Diamond, Triple Diamond Max models).
As was the case when the driver first appeared on the USGA’s conforming list, we don’t have any additional tech details from Callaway at this point.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Callaway needs to hire somebody who knows how to design head covers. Look at pxg and Cobra and you will see some really nice head covers. I cannot remember the last time I saw one from Callaway that didn’t look awful and certainly were not timeless.

I saw these in person about 6 weeks ago. I’m not a Callaway fanboy, but both the driver and headcover looked really good. These pictures don’t do justice to either IMO. The headcover is much better than any of Callaway’s recent offerings. That said, I don’t use factory headcovers and I’d certainly never buy a driver based on the headcover!!!
