XXIO announces 14 Series of irons and woods

Published

on

Today, XXIO announced the XXIO 14 and XXIO 14+ lines, introducing breakthrough materials and engineering advances to deliver distance for moderate swing-speed players.

Available today, the new lineup represents what XXIO Vice President Chuck Thiry describes as a fundamental shift for the brand. Rather than incremental refinements, the 14 series brings entirely new technologies to help women and senior golfers generate more clubhead speed, improve accuracy, and rediscover enjoyment on the course.

XXIO 14 woods

The centerpiece of XXIO 14’s innovation is Ultiflex Technology, powered by VR-Titanium, which is a newly developed titanium alloy making its worldwide debut in these clubs. Stronger and more durable than conventional titanium, the material allows for thinner face construction.

This represents the first time VR-Titanium has been used in any product globally. The alloy’s enhanced properties enable engineers to create faces that flex more efficiently, translating a player’s natural tempo into greater distance.

XXIO’s signature ActivWing technology returns in refined form, strategically positioned to stabilize the clubhead path during the downswing.

When strikes do miss the sweet spot, a new High-Grip Milled Pattern on the heel and toe areas helps preserve both distance and accuracy. Each club in the lineup features precision weighting designed to optimize tempo and energy transfer through impact, according to the company.

Also noteworthy: For the first time in company history, XXIO is offering adjustability in its men’s driver. The XXIO 14 driver features a lightweight, quick-tune hosel that maintains the brand’s ultralight feel while providing ±1.5 degrees of loft adjustment. This allows players to fine-tune launch conditions.

XXIO 14 irons

The XXIO 14 irons incorporate the same Ultiflex technology found in the woods, pairing it with a titanium face that delivers responsive feedback at impact. By redistributing saved weight lower in the clubhead, engineers created irons that naturally launch the ball higher without requiring harder swings.

A newly designed L-Groove positioned lower in the face unlocks additional flex, working in concert with XXIO’s Rebound Frame to generate increased ball speed across a larger hitting area. Subtle refinements, including a thinner neck and high-density tungsten sole weighting, help center the club’s energy for maximum efficiency.

XXIO 14 Ladies Line

While the XXIO 14 ladies collection features the same core technologies, it’s specifically optimized for women golfers. The woods showcase a rounded head shape that inspires confidence at address, combined with draw-bias weighting to counter common misses and promote straighter ball flight.

Every detail has been considered throughout the set. The woods are tuned for smoother tempo, while the irons feature thinner, lower faces to help achieve effortless launch. Even the sound at impact has been acoustically engineered for women’s swing speeds, producing a higher, longer pitch that complements the lightweight performance, the company says.

XXIO 14+

Complementing the standard line, XXIO 14+ caters to golfers with swing speeds in the 90-100 mph range. Available exclusively through select fitters and dealers, the 14+ features the same breakthrough technologies with a more traditional aesthetic and performance profile.

The woods sport a matte finish with darker faces for a premium look, while the irons offer classic shaping with V-Sole design and reduced offset for enhanced workability. XXIO General Manager Ryan Polanco notes that offering a fitting-focused option in the lightweight category sets the brand apart in an underserved segment.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
