Best driver of the last few years for moderate swing speed player that also offer distance? – GolfWRXers discuss

Published

on

In our forums, our members have been discussing drivers. WRXer ‘CaptAmerica103’ kicks off the thread saying:

“I noticed a forum topic about drivers best suited for players with high swing speed but who need forgiveness.  I thought I would put a bit of a twist on this and make a similar topic.  What are some drivers that are good for players like myself whose driver swing speed is only in the high 90s/borderline low 100s but would like a little extra distance?

Would drivers like the TaylorMade Sim 2 Max, Callaway AI Smoke Max, and/or Titleist TSR2 be good examples?”

And our members have been sharing their picks and suggestions in our forum.

Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.

  • J-Walker: “There are so many options these days for sure. Here would be a few I’d say are worth a hit in the hitting bays at that speed: GT2, DS-ADAPT Max K, AI Smoke Max/Elyte X, G440 Max and even the G440 LS, QI35 Core & Max.”
  • BringBackTXG: “Krank is the answer. Not gonna get much love here for obvious reasons, but if I lacked swing speed, their driver heads would be my number one choice by a mile. Who cares if it is too hot for the pro tour or a US Amateur event. Use what makes the game the most fun and gives you the best advantage.”
  • mikes919: “G430 Max is not going anywhere in my bag, I don’t think I can really get better numbers out of a driver head. I’ve also had good results with the GT2 and Elyte Core models. The right head for you will depend less on swing speed, and more on your delivery conditions.”

JBeam 435, yonex 430, or gt4 are my choices for slower/lower mid speed swingers that know what they’re doing most of the time.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
