Titleist has offered different Custom Performance Option (CPO) golf balls over the years as it sees the need in the market. As more players demanded more speed off the tee, Titleist responded with the Pro V1x Left Dash, which provided the speed but didn’t give away the control around the greens. Titleist’s Pro V1x Left Dash was released in 2018 as a lower spin option for players who still needed some height on their shots. Driver spin is lower than the ProV1x with Left Dash while the shot height is only slightly lower. Currently, the Left Dash is firmer feeling off the club as some players like that sound and feel on their shots.

Now this specialty ball is just that and was never designed to take over where Pro V1x sits in the line. The Left Dash was built for a smaller segment of specific golfers, and a new version has been in the works for a while now.

“We set out to create a better Left Dash four years ago, and there were points over that stretch where we got really close to the finish line before changing course,” said Frederick Waddell, Director of Titleist Golf Ball Product Management. 

“We are where we are today because of the collaboration between our R&D teams and tour players. We had prototypes that offered improved performance in some respects but, according to Left Dash players, ultimately strayed too far from Dash’s original DNA. If a product isn’t delivering what players are asking for, then we go back to the drawing board. And that’s what we did.”

As Waddell mentioned, creating a new version that performs significantly better without being a different ball was not an easy challenge to take on. Seeing the white boxes out on tour this week at the Procore Championship means that we have gotten to the point where Titleist engineers feel like they have the right recipe for the best in the world to play it.

We don’t have any details on what is new with the Left Dash or what secret sauce is under the hood just yet.  While Left Dash is only around seven percent of Titleist fittings, there are many who have been waiting for an updated ball to put in play. Hopefully, Titleist will throw the curtains open soon, and we can get all the details!
