Graphite Design launches new Tour AD FI “Flight Intelligence” wood shaft
Graphite Design is, of course, one of the premier shaft manufacturers in the golf world, with some iconic shafts on its resume. From the still dominant Tour AD DI to the legendary YS 6, the company has maintained a passion for producing cutting-edge shafts. The newest shaft in the lineup is called the Tour AD FI, and as you see in the title above, the letters stand for “Flight Intelligence.”
Like all Graphite Design shafts, the FI is designed and built in Japan at the company headquarters. Tornado Tip Tech is new from Graphite Design. It helps create a more consistent delivery of the club head to the ball.
Premium carbon fiber materials, such as M40X and T1100G from Torayca, are also incorporated into the design for enhanced stability and flexibility. Finally, AD Shield involves laying all these materials in a strategic amount and orientation, so the shaft performs to its maximum potential.
The Tour AD FI is a mid-launch shaft, similar to the newer Tour AD GC that came out last year, but with lower spin. The shaft bend profile is also slightly different, featuring a firm handle and mid-section, followed by a stiff tip.
Like most of their shafts, Graphite Design offers a wide range of weights and flexes to fit golfers going from a 49-gram lite flex option all the way up to an 85-gram X-stiff.
The Graphite Design Tour AD FI is available now at all authorized dealers and fitters.
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.
“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
