Spotted: Scotty Cameron Prototype Studio Style putters with Teryllium face inserts
Scotty Cameron’s Studio Style putters have been a big hit on the professional tours and with amateur players like us. The retail flatsticks have a Studio Carbon Steel insert that features Scotty’s Chainlink milling for a soft feel, great sound, and smooth roll. While most of us love that from a putter, out on the professional tours, players have different needs and wants. This week, at the 2025 Wyndham Championship, we spotted a few putters with different inserts for players to test out.
Teryllium (TeI3) Insert
Scotty has used Teryllium inserts on putters since 1997, with the most famous insert winning the Masters that year in the hands of none other than a young Tiger Woods. TeI3 is the symbol Scotty uses for his copper alloy that is said to be a combination of 12 different metals. This material, combined with an elastomer membrane, creates a very soft feel at impact. Scotty has recently been using TeI3 face inserts in limited-edition models that sell out instantly. These putters are all Circle T models that are only available to tour players, so you might get to work on your golf game in order to get your hands on one.

Fastback

German Stainless Steel (GSS)
Labeled as a softer and more machinable stainless steel by Scotty. Some of the best players out on tour have full putters made from GSS as it feels soft and is very responsive. GSS inserts are nothing new for the Studio Style, as Scotty had them in the 2005 putter line that you could walk into your local shop and purchase. For the tour, Scotty went with a shallow milling that should offer a slightly crisper feel and sound at impact.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
