Tried the Titleist GT2 7-wood… – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, our members have been discussing Titleist’s GT2 7-wood. WRXer ‘mudgolf’ kicks off his thread with his very impressed reaction after trying out the club, saying:
“I just demoed the Titleist GT2 7 Wood with the Tensei 1k blue 65 shaft. It was remarkably easy to hit from all different kinds of lies and even off the tee. It launched high and landed softly even from the rough. I envisioned it replacing my 3 hybrid. The problem is that I seemed to hit it a little shorter than my 4 hybrid. Needless to say, I was very surprised. It was so easy to hit, I would love to game it, just not sure how to get more distance out of it.
Thoughts?”
And our members have been reacting and sharing their thoughts on the 7-wood in our forums.
Here are a few posts from the thread but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- sniper: “I was fit for the same club but turned down to 20.25 and +1/2 inch. Definitely goes high and sits soft. It would be a 3 iron/3 hybrid replacement for me. I haven’t trusted the fitting enough to order it. In a previous fitting I was fit to same setup but with 1k Black 85-S. I haven’t fallen in love with the feel of GT2 so I’ve bought a G440 Max 7W off BST (I play a G430 Max 3w). GT2 will be a backup plan for me if I don’t like the G440.”
- Ty_Guy: “I love it. I did a casual fitting the other day for the GT2 7w, comparing it to 3 different heads over two fittings. All just in stock stiff or regular shafts. Idea being I want this to be an extremely easy clubhead to hit without any thought or effort. Tried all the major brands except Ping. Same setup with the 65 Tensei Blue beat out everything. I compared one 7w model from each brand–sometimes the low spin, sometimes the max. Callaway’s TD came the closest, but nothing felt as solid through contact as the GT2. I installed an 80g shaft in there and it’s been a wonderful club. In fact, I’m so happy with it, I plan to compare my 5w to Titleist’s offerings next time I’m at the shop.”
- mikes919: “I demoed this a few weeks ago and found the same thing. Loved how it felt. Was easy to hit high and straight. Didn’t carry as far as I expected. 97ish driver swing speed, I was getting about 195-200 carry from the 7 wood. I expected maybe 10 yards more. It’s about the same, maybe a bit less carry than my 3H at 20.5*. But with a much steeper landing angle. So the 7W would definitely hold greens better.”

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
