Odyssey announces Ai-One Square 2 Square Max 1, Max Stripe putters

Published

on

Callaway Golf has unveiled new Odyssey line additions with its Ai-One Square 2 Square Max 1 and Max Stripe putters.

The new putters feature a modern center-shafted design that makes them stroke balanced in design to stay square throughout a golfer’s stroke. These putters are aimed towards golfers looking to minimize their face rotation when they putt.

Per Callaway, the putters are the most stable Square 2 Square models yet, with a high MOI over 6,300, along with the brand’s Ai-One insert, which aims to deliver a more consistent ball speed across the face.

The Max 1 features a simple sight line in the middle of the design, while the Max Stripe features a bold alignment line using Versa 90 alignment for better alignment.

Designed using Artificial Intelligence, the putters feature contours on the aluminum backer of the insert, which has been co-molded to a White Hot Urethane striking surface in design to promote consistent ball speed across the face.

The design of the putters centers the shaft on the CG plane.. This results in putters that rest with the toe up in a reverse torque position, opposite of a traditional putter with toe hang. This design aims to promote a square face throughout the stroke.

In addition, the 3.3 degrees of forward shaft lean presets the hands in a forward press position in design to eliminate the opening of the face that often happens when golfers forward press on their own.

Both putters are available at retail from today and cost $399.99 each.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
