“They’re incredible, right?” – Jhonattan Vegas on his prototype Artisan irons
The GolfWRX forum faithful know Jhonattan Vegas’ golf bag has long been the domain of some of the purest blades in the game. Most recently, the 40-year-old Venezuelan was gaming a nasty set of 2014 Mizuno MP4 irons with his initials stamped near the toe (pictured below).

Unfortunately, time waits for no man (nor golf club), and the MP4’s were beginning to wear out. Good news though: Vegas had an arguably even more aesthetically appealing set waiting in the wings, and he called a set of Artisan prototype irons off the bench. Vegas noted famed clubmaker Mike Taylor built for the former Nike staffer a couple of years ago.

Our Andrew Tursky caught up with the four-time PGA Tour winner at the Zurich Classic, and he had this to say about the irons.
“They’re incredible, right? Mike Taylor, I’ve known him for a very long time since my…good old days at Nike, even since college…at Texas I have a great relationship with them and we did some incredible work with Nike back back in the days…a couple of years ago, he built me a set of those, and I had them at home, and…my old Mizunos were were kind of getting worn out and it was time for a new set, and I just kind of went back and hit those, and…they felt like — it reminded me a lot of…when I first started, my old Nike blades. So good feels, and they’re in the bag.”
Good feels and good looks.
See more of Vegas’ irons — and plenty of other club junkie fare — in this week’s episode of Inside the Ropes below.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
