Spotted: Ping PLD Prototype putters
Ping’s milled (Putting Lab Design) PLD putters have been very popular on tour with players, and we have seen Ping offer quite a few options and putter heads. This week at the WM Phoenix Open, Ping had more than a couple of new prototype PLD putters for players to get their hands on: Some brand new head shapes, maybe a classic Ping design, and some very interesting potentially toe-up balanced putters.
Ping PLD toe-up balanced putters?
Are these the toe-up/torque balanced/lie angle balanced putters that we have been waiting to see if Ping would make? They definitely could be. It looks like where the shaft goes into the head is just heel-side of center and behind the face. Most putters with this configuration have that toe-up balance. It looks like Ping has two models, Oslo and Ally Blue, with this balance to it. The Oslo is the more rounded mallet that also looks to have a face insert of a different material. The Ally Blue is the more squared-off head design that features a single long site line.

Ping PLD Craz-E
Ping’s Craz-E putter has always been one of those putters you love or hate the looks of. I personally was never a big fan but the PLD version with the patina finish looks really good. All the details of the previous Craz-E seem to be there with the addition of a horizontally milled face.

New Ping PLD Model
I am not a Ping putter historian but I don’t recall them using this head shape anytime recently. It has an Odyssey Rossie look to it with a smooth milled face and short site line on the topline of the putter. The sole is interesting as that could be a lighter aluminum insert that moves mass to the perimeter of the putter, making it extra stable for its size.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping
Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.
That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.
On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”
On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”
“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.
