Spotted: Min Woo Lee’s Callaway Apex Forged prototype blades

Published

on

We’ve seen plenty of new equipment launched so far in 2025, but Min Woo Lee might be trying to outshine it all with his new custom Callaway Apex Forged blades! Callaway isn’t giving out information on the chef’s custom irons, but we can assume that there aren’t many of them floating around; this could be the only set!

The irons are mostly free of markings — other than the large chevron etched on the back and “Apex Forged” on the hosel. Shaping on these blades is definitely more modern with a very unique topline that features two angles, which might be used to make the iron suit Lee’s eye from address.

A large rear muscle sits low on the iron and looks to protrude further out from the back toe compared to more traditional blades on the market. The muscle then tapers back closer to the blade down near the heel. This design could be used to move the center of gravity exactly where Lee wants it for a specific ball flight or a particular feel as the club rotates through the swing. Milling marks look to be all over the irons, including the back, further making me think these are one-off or very limited edition irons.

Looking at the sole, a heavy trailing edge grind is present on the irons. This will let the sole play more narrow and allow the club to release from the turf more easily and quickly. A very blunt leading edge seems to be present to help keep the divots shallow and it could be the shadow but it almost looks like the sole has a small V on it. From the picture of the toe and the full sole, down near the heel, it looks like they could have something going on — perhaps akin to Srixon’s Tour V Sole. That style sole is very versatile and allows the player to hit a variety of shots without digging or slowing the club down.

Of course, this is all speculation from the photos. Hopefully, Callaway will give us some more details soon!

They are beautiful for a callaway product. I wonder if somebody else forged them and they just stamped them?

So they are probably Miura, right? LOL

Might actually consider those if Callaway keeps them clean and doesn’t add a bunch of emblems and ugly graphics. Odds of that are probably close to zero though.

Neal Shipley, AKA, the “Big Fridge’s,” custom stamping

Published

on

Neal Shipley was the first to admit that he enjoyed his food while in college. But since his days at Ohio State, he’s slimmed down and earned a PGA Tour Card.

That hasn’t stopped him from having fun with his wedge stampings, though it’s led to some misunderstandings.

On the 54 (degree), we have ‘Big Fudge,'” Shipley told GolfWRX. “It was supposed to be ‘Big Fridge,’ so this happened a little while ago. ‘Big Fridge’ was a nickname between my college teammates and I, with ‘fridge’ meaning stomach, a big stomach.

“We told the Ping guys to put … ‘Big Fridge’ on it, and I think maybe some bad cell service or something, and they thought I said ‘fudge,’ so they put fudge on it.”

On Shipley’s 50-degree he also continues the food theme, this time with his go-to order at the “Golden Arches,” and his stamping “DONS 7.”

“The number 7 meal, the two cheeseburger meal, that was my McDonald’s order, back when I would have McDonald’s frequently,” Shipley shared.

Check out Shipley’s full what’s in the bag and the rest of his wedge stampings here on “Inside the Ropes” from Colonial.
